STEAM Explore
What Is STEAM Explore? It is an opportunity for students 1-6 to explore a STEAM experience of their choice that is project based and follows the Engineering Process.
What is the teacher’s role? Each teacher in grade 1-6 will create a four week unit of their choice in the categories of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, or Math. The lesson can focus on one or all of the categories. Each lesson will be about 35-40 minutes long. The unit needs to be project based and have a product at the end of the unit. The lessons/unit must follow the process of Plan/Brainstorm a question, Develop a plan, Create, and Reflect. (see example below) The unit needs to be prepared to accommodate multiple grade levels like 2-5, 1-3, or 4-6. There will be a minimum of 20 and maximum of 25 students in each class.
What is the student’s role? Every student in 1-6 will have an opportunity to choose the STEAM Explore they want to participate in. They will fill out a survey in class that will allow them to choose their top three choices and we will place them in one of those choices.
